Presenting potential to improve administration frequency, route, and volume using three next-generation drug delivery platforms

Sharing formulation and pharmacokinetic research outcomes for peptides and biopharmaceuticals

Conducting one-on-one partnering with global pharma and biotech firms to discuss collaborative development

Daewoong Pharmaceutical (069620) has introduced advanced drug delivery technologies to the global market designed to reduce administration frequency and injection volume while diversifying delivery methods. The company aims to leverage its portfolio—ranging from long-acting injectables and microneedle patches to high-concentration biologic formulations—to address diverse drug characteristics and expand joint development opportunities with overseas pharmaceutical and biotech companies.

Daewoong Pharmaceutical announced on November 2 that it participated in the international drug delivery conference 'PODD (Partnership Opportunities in Drug Delivery) 2026,' held in Boston from October 29 to 30, where it presented the research achievements of its three next-generation drug delivery platforms.

The technologies unveiled at the event include 'CURE,' a long-acting injectable platform; 'CLOPAM,' a microneedle platform; and 'Thermicra,' a high-concentration biologic formulation platform. Each technology focuses on sustained drug release, transdermal delivery, and the development of high-concentration formulations, respectively.

Targeting Improvements in Administration Frequency, Route, and Volume… Unveiling Platform-Specific Research

The common objective of Daewoong Pharmaceutical’s three platforms is to enhance therapeutic convenience by implementing delivery methods optimized for specific drug characteristics. However, their target applications and technical approaches differ.

First, the CURE long-acting injectable platform focuses on reducing administration frequency. It is designed to ensure sustained drug release over a specific period by utilizing microparticles made from biodegradable polymers. The company presented pharmacokinetic study results applying this technology to peptide drugs, alongside formulation and process development achievements optimized for mass production.

To improve administration routes, the company introduced the CLOPAM microneedle platform. This patch-based technology delivers drugs through the skin via microscopic needles, with ongoing research targeting GLP-1 receptor agonists used in the treatment of obesity and diabetes.

Daewoong Pharmaceutical disclosed evaluations of in vivo drug absorption and blood concentration changes following patch administration using CLOPAM, alongside achievements in precision manufacturing and automated process development.

For reducing the administration volume of biopharmaceuticals, the company showcased the Thermicra high-concentration formulation platform. This technology formulates antibodies and other biopharmaceuticals at high concentrations, enabling subcutaneous administration in smaller volumes.

At the event, the company presented results from developing high-concentration formulations by applying Thermicra to antibodies and antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), accompanied by research evaluating in vivo drug absorption and activity.

The application direction of these technologies varies depending on the drug type and development objectives. Daewoong Pharmaceutical is expanding the utility of its platforms by simultaneously conducting research on the necessary technologies and manufacturing processes for sustained release, transdermal delivery, and high-concentration formulations.

Applying Platforms to Global Pharma Pipeline Candidates… Expanding Co-Development Opportunities

Daewoong Pharmaceutical plans to translate the business connections secured at the event into follow-up technological collaborations. Beyond developing its own proprietary new drugs, the company is exploring business opportunities by applying its drug delivery platforms to pipeline candidates held by external pharmaceutical and biotech firms.

Throughout the conference, the company operated an exhibition booth and conducted individual business meetings with global pharma and biotech companies. By explaining the technical characteristics and research outcomes of each platform, Daewoong gauged interest and demand for future collaborations.

The company plans to evaluate options to improve administration frequency, route, and volume by selecting appropriate formulation technologies tailored to drug characteristics and development stages. Based on this, Daewoong aims to refine product differentiation strategies for partner candidates and expand joint development opportunities.

"To enhance the competitiveness of new drugs, delivery technologies optimized for drug characteristics, along with formulation and manufacturing capabilities that translate them into actual products, are crucial," said Park Sung-soo, CEO of Daewoong Pharmaceutical. "Having introduced Daewoong's next-generation drug delivery technologies and R&D capabilities to the global market through PODD 2026, we will apply suitable platforms to pipeline candidates of global pharmaceutical companies to drive substantive business cooperation."
