Joint research and technical evaluation procedures successfully concluded; all contractually stipulated payments received.

Peptron: "The conclusion of this evaluation does not signify the end of potential commercial cooperation," citing ongoing reviews of commercial viability and mass production capabilities.

Shares hit lower limit in after-hours trading following the announcement; market focus shifts to prospects for future commercialization.

Peptron (087010) and global pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly have concluded a two-year evaluation of the 'SmartDepot™' long-acting injectable platform. While the evaluation phase has ended, the two companies have not yet entered into a follow-up commercialization agreement.

In an official statement released on the 7th, Peptron announced, "As of October 7, 2026, the technology evaluation period for the SmartDepot platform conducted with Eli Lilly has reached its conclusion."

The company added, "We deeply regret that we are unable to share news of a follow-up commercialization agreement at the time of the evaluation's conclusion."

However, the company clarified that the end of this evaluation marks only the completion of the joint research and assessment procedures, and does not signify an end to potential future business cooperation between the two parties.

Two Years of Joint Research Concluded; Full Payment Received

The collaboration began on October 7, 2024, when Peptron signed a platform technology evaluation agreement with Eli Lilly. Peptron granted a non-exclusive license to facilitate joint research aimed at applying the SmartDepot technology to Lilly’s proprietary peptide drugs.

The original contract duration was specified as "until the end of the evaluation (approximately 14 months)." As the technical assessment took longer than initially projected, Peptron filed a revised disclosure in December 2025, extending the contract period to a "maximum of 24 months."

According to Peptron, the joint research project was expanded beyond the scope originally planned at the time of the contract, incorporating additional technical assessments. All related research and evaluation procedures were completed within the contract period, and the company has received the full amount of the agreed-upon compensation.

The 'October 7' Deadline Passes; Focus Shifts to Commercialization Strategy

On the 28th of last month, Market Times highlighted in an article titled, "Peptron-Lilly: 'October 7' – The Path Toward Technology Transfer," that while October 7 was not a hard deadline for a licensing agreement, it served as a critical juncture for Eli Lilly to determine its next steps after two years of evaluating the SmartDepot platform.

In a September FAQ, Peptron had previously addressed the date, stating that October 7 was not a deadline for a technology transfer agreement, but rather a milestone related to the duration of the joint research contract.

While the technical evaluation has officially concluded, no successor commercialization contract has been executed. Moving forward, discussions regarding further business collaboration will be based on the results of the joint research and technical evaluation conducted to date. The company noted that key factors for review include commercial viability, large-scale manufacturing potential, marketability, and intellectual property considerations.

Peptron stated that the scope, form, and timing of any future commercial collaboration remain subject to further reviews and decision-making by both parties, and cannot be specified at this time.

Market Reaction: Shares Hit Lower Limit in After-Hours Trading

The market reacted immediately. Following the official announcement, Peptron's stock plummeted in after-hours trading, hitting the lower limit of 91,500 KRW during the session.

Investors had widely anticipated that the conclusion of the two-year evaluation would coincide with a follow-up commercialization deal. The lack of such an agreement led to a surge in selling pressure based on market disappointment.

However, it would be premature to conclude that the business partnership with Lilly has collapsed. Peptron explicitly stated that the completion of the technical evaluation does not mean the end of potential commercialization, noting that deliberations regarding future cooperation are ongoing.

The two-year SmartDepot technology evaluation has concluded. Market attention is now focused on whether Eli Lilly will advance the SmartDepot platform to the actual commercialization stage.
